What is an Excavator & Types of Excavators

Excavator is one of the most common type of construction machinery that performs multiple operations at one time. It is mostly used for digging and moving large objects from one place to another. Excavator is mainly consisted on two parts, a driven base and boom stick. Right with base, a driver cabin is attached. Excavators have many types according to their functionality some of these types are following:

Compact Excavator

Compact or mini excavator is one of the most common type of excavator which can do many tasks due to its compact size. It can work on small streets, fields and forests. Not go with its small size, it can hold up to 8 tons at a time and it is because of powerful hydraulic pump. It is track mounted type of excavator and somewhere has tires.

Dragline Excavator

Dragline Excavator is too big as it performs heavy duty functions. It is great civil-engineering machine used for digging mines and it has to be built on sites. Dragline excavator consists of a structural designed boom, a large bucket hanged with wire ropes, a big immovable base and driver’s cabin. It is mostly used in coal and tar-sand mines.

Dragline Excavator

Suction Excavator

Suction excavator is also known as “vacuum excavator” works as a digger and sucks the earth with high air pressure. It crawls on pipes, tank makes it useful for waste storage, and truck shape makes it fast enough for mobilization and compact size makes it easy to be reached everywhere.

Crawler Excavator

Crawler excavator is most common type which can be seen everywhere on the site. It has name “crawler” because it is based on a track system like army tank instead of tires. Crawler excavator helps to dig and carry from those places where other big machines can’t reach. It is just because of its extra-long boom arm and big bucket at the end.

Crawler Excavator

Wheeled Excavator

Wheeled excavator works for most of the projects as compared to other excavators. It is so common type of excavator which works in any field because of its tires or wheels. It has big wheels that stand it at any site either it is sandy or hard rocks. It has a boom-arm attached on the base, while a hydraulic operated bucket attached to the arm. It increases productivity of your work in field and even when you hire it because of its high speed.

Excavator Attachments

Excavator is the combination of many parts and some of them are known as attachments. These are the parts of excavator that help it to work with functionality at different areas for different purposes. Following is the list of some commonly used excavator attachments:
  1. Slab Crab for holding slabs.
  2. Grapple is used to pull the big pieces of stone.
  3. Concrete Pulverizer is used to pulverize the concrete.
  4. Hydraulic Thumb allows you to pull heavy objects and liquids because of highly capable bucket.
  5. Bucket normally has teeth that allow the constructer to sweep-out sticky objects from bottom.
  6. Auxiliary & Long Sticks extend your opportunity to reach-out the maximum point of your construction.
  7. Ripper is same as your finger nail, it exterminates the base easily.
  8. Blade Bucket has opened the maximum capability to cut-off the big pieces before pulling them.

Excavator Attachments
From demolition to cleanup, excavator facilitates our construction requirements in many ways by its durability, portability and functionality. Additionally, changeable parts increase its productivity in different fields. It’s obviously a single show construction equipment.
