Common Types of Rice


In our daily life, we use rice as our main cuisine in many dishes either they are desserts or salty one. Besides that, you may find rice many traditions as an occasional cuisine for example Asians and it is one of the most used agriculture products for most of the Asian, African and Latin American countries. This is the only food which can cover the whole meal of your routine life and gives you protein, vitamins and fibers and did you know rice is the second most used food of the world after corns.

Rice belongs from the category of cereal grain and it has more than forty thousand varieties from across the globe. Varieties of rice are varied because of shapes, sizes, flavors, origins, harness and colors so here are some common types of rice which are mostly eaten.

Long Grain Rice

Long grain rice is one of the most common and used cereal type grain which is commonly grown in some American and Asian countries. Long grain rice is a type of rice which is too slim and long can be used in many regular cuisines. Long grain rice can be imported from United States, Thailand, Italy, India, Pakistan and Spain. It comes to us after the long industrialization process that makes it finished to be used.

Short grain rice is second mostly consumed and sold kind of rice that is short in size but taste makes it superior to others. Short grain rice can be justified by its round shape and it gets sticky texture when cooked. It is originated from Vietnam, China, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Parboiled rice is quite similar to brown rice but one thing that makes its different is the part of its easy cooking process. Parboiled rice steamed with its husk so all the nutrients from husk stick to the rice and form the better product for your health.

Broken rice is one of the most selling types of rice in most of the countries and it can be used for making desserts and salads and other nutrient dishes. As usual, Vietnamese are king of producing broken rice and their export ratios are comparative to others.

Not go with its name, wild rice is one of the main cuisines in many locations of the world like China, United States and India. Somehow, it is known as water oat and Canadian rice because of its beautiful white color. You may find wild rice mostly at China, Canada and Vietnam.

It is second most common and used type of rice after long grain rice which is known as Prince of Rice. It has so much popularity among peoples due to its attractive color, nutrition like iron & fiber, size and delicious taste. Basmati rice has exported throughout the world from Pakistan and India and aroma and fragrant flavor makes it superior to other regional rice. Super Basmati Rice and Kernal Basmati Rice are few more types of basmati rice.

Japonica is mostly used and quite common in Japanese and Chinese cuisines as a main course. Japonica is one of the medium quality rice which is mainly grown in California and comes in three colors red, brown and black. Many producers export this japonica rice to most of the regions of the world like China, Taiwan, Thailand and Japan.

Jasmine is one of the delicious types of rice which may be grown in most of the parts of Thailand. Jasmine Rice is not much different from Basmati but the flavor and fragrance of both qualities are slightly changed. Jasmine is one of the most consumed rice in sub-continent and China due to its attractive texture & fragrance after cooking.

There are some more common types of rice including Balam Rice, Irri Rice, Lido rice, Supri Rice, Hasan serai, Seela Rice and Angelika Rice. Hence, all of these types have some qualities that make it different from others.
